For the second time in his career, UFC welterweight Chris Lytle kept Matt Brown at bay with a second-round submission at UFC 116. And he did it with a hold he's used in competition before. Chris Lytle Shooting for Fifth Straight Bonus in Matt Brown Rematch at UFC 116 (6/30/2010 7:13:49 PM)
Filed under: UFCThe way Chris Lytle is going, he might have to change his nickname - and not because another "Lights Out," James Toney, is now in the UFC. "Mr. Bonus," perhaps? Lytle, one of the UFC's longest standing veterans, has won bonus awards in four straight matches and seven of his last nine. Getting his name called by Dana White at the post-fight press conference practically has become an automatic. But Lytle told MMA Fighting on Wednesday he's not ready to change his nickname just yet - with implied emphasis on the "yet." "Maybe if I get to the 10 bonus point, I can start thinking about that," Lytle said. "But you've got to at least get to double digits first." Lytle has a good chance to creep one notch closer on Saturday night at UFC 116. His main-card welterweight bout with Matt Brown has all the makings of another Fight of the Night.

Despite new game plan, don't expect fewer fireworks from UFC 116's Chris Lytle (6/26/2010 5:45:00 PM)
At one point in UFC welterweight Chris Lytle's career, all he wanted was a slugfest inside the octagon. Then he realized he was tipping his hand to opponents. When he takes on Matt Brown in a televised bout at next week's UFC 116 event, he'd like to stand and bang. But he'll take whatever he's given inside the cage and end it sooner rather than later. "I have to fight this way to keep honest," Lytle recently told MMAjunkie.com.
With Chris Lytle, You Just Know Whats Coming . . . (6/23/2010 9:01:00 AM)
Chuck Mindenhall, UFC - There are guys in the UFC who fight with absolute predictability. Chris Lytle is one of those guys. Whenever he steps in the Octagon, his game plan is clear to everyone in the room—it's to stand and trade leather, to bang on the feet until somebody drops, even if it's himself. A trademark image of Lytle would be a grin and a stream of blood running down his face. We've all seen it; he ends up that way almost every time he steps in the cage.

Filed under: UFC, NewsThe first time Chris Lytle and Matt Brown met, both were different fighters. It was only three years ago in a small organization in Lytle's home state of Indiana, but much has changed since then. With just two years as a pro, Brown was still relatively green compared to the eight-year vet he was facing. And Lytle, he was, well, not exactly a more careful fighter, but certainly one with different motivations in the cage. Back then, Lytle admits he was more apt to play it safe. He knew that wins equaled title shots, and his best chance at victory was usually on the mat, where he could put his jiu-jitsu black belt to work.
