Responding to questions about whether a rubber match was guaranteed, as Smith's manager, Mike Roberts, seemed to think was the case when he spoke with Sherdog.com before the bout, Coker said it might be a consideration eventually, but it's by no means assured. "We've had that conversation," Coker said. "These guys, it was an amazing fight. Both fights were amazing fights. I think if they fought every weekend it would be amazing fights every weekend, like the Gatti-Ward fight, just those epic battles. When I think of Scott and Cung that's what I think of. But there hasn't been anything decided. I didn't make that commitment to Scott or to Mike, actually.

Cung Le Focused on Unfinished Business with Scott Smith (6/23/2010 9:25:27 PM)

He was hitting him with everything he could think of -- spinning backfists, rapid punch combos, the kind of flashy kicks that normally only work in action movies -- and he was doing it all in front of his hometown fans in San Jose. There didn't seem to be any way he could possibly lose. Then he got hit with one good punch, which opened the door for several more good punches. The next thing he knew he was sitting upright against the fence, his nose flattened in a sickening posture against his face while a cageside doctor aimed a light in his eyes and tried to figure out whether his brain was still in proper working condition.

Filed under: StrikeforceWhen Jason "Mayhem" Miller and Jake Shields step into the cage on Saturday, it will match up one of MMA's best known personalities with one of its most underrated fighters. For all his verbosity and bluster, Miller is highly skilled and well rounded, and presents the surging Shields with a stern challenge in all facets of the fight game. So how will the Stikeforee middleweight championship fight go down? Let's take a look. Shields says it's his current goal to win both the Strikeforce middleweight and welterweight belts. He gets his chance to get the first on Saturday, as he and Miller battle for the title recently vacated by former champion Cung Le. The 30-year-old Shields (23-4-1) has not lost in almost five years, winning 12 in a row during that time. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, he is most dangerous on the ground, where he's won 10 of his fights by submission, including four in a row. Once known as a fighter who frequently went to decisions

Nursing injury while filming movies, Strikeforce champ Cung Le eyes end of year return on CBS (8/14/2009 8:15:00 PM)
While Strikeforce has made recent headlines with the impressive roster of new talent company officials have managed to bring to the organization, one familiar face has remained unseen for more than a year. Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le (6-0) hasn't fought since earning the title with a TKO win over Frank Shamrock in March 2008, and many MMA fans are calling for the flashy striker to give up the belt. But as Le recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker isn't of the same opinion.

Dana White Fires First Shots at 'Strike-Farce' After Fedor Emelianenko Signing (8/6/2009 3:24:00 PM)
Filed under: UFC, StrikeforcePHILADELPHIA -- For years, there's been a respectful peace between UFC President Dana White and Strikeforce President Scott Coker. In the past, White has pointed him out as a class act and an effective leader. Even when Strikeforce signed a deal with NBC, White had nothing bad to say about Coker. But after the upstart San Jose, Calif.-based promotion signed coveted free agent and heavyweight star Fedor Emelianenko, the gloves are off, and the first shots of the UFC-Strikeforce war have been fired. While White still holds a personal respect for Coker, he pulled no punches in bashing his company in the moments after a UFC 101 press conference, calling it "Strike-Farce" and characterizing it as a "regional show.""They have no money, no fighters. They're a small-town show," White said. "Cung Le hasn't defended the title since like 1997. Josh Thomson hasn't defended the belt in like two years. Who's their other champion? Alistair Overeem? Scott Smith: Cung Le Needs to Defend the Strikeforce Middleweight Belt (6/5/2009 7:41:00 AM)
Filed under: Strikeforce Add Strikeforce fighter Scott Smith to the growing list of people in the MMA community who are getting sick and tired of Cung Le's decision to put the Strikeforce middleweight title on hold so that he can pursue an acting career. "I haven't heard anything about a title shot but there's a lot of guys deserving of that title fight," Smith said on this week's edition of ESPN's MMA Live. "I just think after this Strikeforce card somebody definitely needs to fight for the belt, so I think Cung Le definitely needs to get active after this." I couldn't agree more with Smith. Le won the Strikeforce middleweight title in March of 2008, and he still hasn't defended it a single time. His excuse is always that he's too busy with his acting responsibilities, but it's ridiculous that Strikeforce puts up with that: If Le wants to act, he needs to have the belt taken from him. Saturday night's Strikeforce show has two good fights featuring fighters who could be solid middle

But as Smith finishes up his preparations for a June 6 contest with Nick Diaz at "Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields" in St. Louis, Smith is ready to be known by a much simpler description: champion. But with Strikeforce title holder Cung Le (6-0) currently on the sidelines, Smith feels the organization may need to look at shaking things up.

Filed under: StrikeforceAn article up today at MMA Weekly carries the curious headline, "Cung Le Not Ready to Ditch Real Fighting," a headline intended to suggest that Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le plans to continue his MMA career rather than turn his attention full-time to acting. But let's be honest here: Le is an actor, not a fighter. In fact, you just need to read all the way to the bottom of the article, the part that deals with when Le might actually fight again, for that to become crystal clear:Le doesn't offer a timetable. His other gig is going full steam. "I definitely plan on returning to the cage as soon as possible, but right now I have a couple of things in the works," he said.Le will turn 37 this month, and he hasn't fought in more than a year, and he's still not willing to offer a timetable for when we're going to see him in the cage again?
