In Dan Henderson, Anderson Silva Has Beaten a Better Version of Chael Sonnen (7/16/2010 5:40:09 AM)
Filed under: UFC UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has generally kept a low profile over the last couple months and let Chael Sonnen take the lead in hyping their August 7 fight. Sonnen has delivered on the hype department, making a bunch of preposterous and at times offensive comments about the champion. The UFC has now released a video in which Silva responds to some of Sonnen's statement, and although Silva does blast Sonnen for the "idiotic things coming out of his mouth," the more interesting comment from Silva is the substantive analysis he makes of Sonnen as a wrestler. While Sonnen claims that Silva will struggle against an opponent with his wrestling skills, Silva otes that in Dan Henderson, he's already beaten someone better.

No excuses from Dan Henderson, credits Strikeforce champ Jake Shields' game plan (4/19/2010 6:00:00 PM)
If Dan Henderson has an excuse for a lackluster showing against middleweight champion Jake Shields at this past weekend's "Strikeforce: Nashville" event, he's keeping it to himself. Following Henderson's unanimous-decision defeat during a CBS-televised headliner at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., the former UFC fighter repeatedly was asked - in one form or another - what prompted the defeat. We'll have to wait for the ratings to come in before we know whether Henderson succeeded in selling the fight, but his championship ambitions hit a roadblock in the form of Jake Shields Saturday night at Strikeforce Nashville. Shields survived an early storm from Henderson on the feet in the first round and then proceeded to dominate the second through fifth rounds on the ground, absolutely destroying Henderson and easily winning a unanimous decision. Stunningly, what should have been a coronation of Shields after the fight turned into a post-fight brawl, as Shields' last opponent, Jason Miller, ran into the cage and demanded a rematch, spurring a fight.

Strikeforce Title Fight Breakdown: Dan Henderson vs. Jake Shields (4/16/2010 8:12:07 AM)
Filed under: StrikeforceNASHVILLE, Tenn. - Last July, Dan Henderson was on the last fight of his UFC contract when he scored a highlight reel knockout of Michael Bisping, giving him maximum negotiating power in his free agency. He eventually parlayed the situation into a four-fight deal with Strikeforce. The first fight on that deal comes in Saturday's middleweight title match against Jake Shields, who would like very much to follow the same blueprint Henderson designed. Shields is now in the same situation, with his title defense wrapping up his current deal, and free agency looming.

Dan Henderson: Anderson Silva 'Fights Like an Idiot' (4/14/2010 2:41:56 PM)
Filed under: UFC, Strikeforce, NewsIn 2008, Dan Henderson lost to Anderson Silva at UFC 82 in a hard-fought battle that unified the UFC and Pride middleweight titles. It was a good fight and one that established Silva, in the eyes of many, as the best mixed martial artist in the world. But in Silva's three title defenses since that victory over Henderson more than two years ago, he hasn't been the same fighter, as he's mixed in a lot of dancing with his fighting in victories over Patrick Cote, Thales Leites and Demian Maia that were much less impressive than his victory over Henderson. On Wednesday Henderson said he's baffled by the way Silva has acted in those three fights.
Dan Henderson says Strikeforce holds many challenges beyond Jake Shields (4/14/2010 2:05:00 PM)
For the first time since 2007, MMA superstar Dan Henderson will fight for someone other than the UFC. Henderson makes his heavily anticipated Strikeforce debut in a middleweight title match with current champ Jake Shields at Saturday's CBS-broadcast "Strikeforce: Nashville" event, and while many believe "Hendo" arrives as the instant class of the Strikeforce organization, the 39-year-old brawler believes plenty of challenges await. "You know, it didn't bring me over here to just be on CBS but to be able to still have some big challenges as far as fights go in Strikeforce," Henderson said. "They've got a pretty good, big roster of fighters now, some big challenges.
Jake Shields, Dan Henderson Not Conceding Anything (4/14/2010 11:42:11 AM)
Filed under: Strikeforce, NewsIf you've seen Jake Shields and Dan Henderson fight, you'd probably say that Shields' solid jiu jitsu gives him a shot at beating Henderson, but that Henderson is the clear favorite because he has a size advantage, greater punching power, and much better wrestling. But Shields and Henderson don't see it that way. Henderson isn't willing to concede that Shields has any better jiu jitsu than he does, while Shields says he doesn't view Henderson being able to impose his will physically when they clash on Saturday night.

Jake Shields Not Sure About UFC, Return to 170 (4/12/2010 11:43:12 AM)
