MMA overtime? UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar says bring it on (3/7/2011 1:15:00 PM)
The first two months of 2011 delivered two high-profile draws - UFC 125's Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard II and UFC 127's B.J. Penn vs. Jon Fitch - both of which ushered in a slew of controversy and left their respective divisions in flux. As a rule, draws generally frustrate fans, almost certainly frustrate fighters and generally cause more confusion than resolution. But can the sport's governing bodies find some way to improve the current system? At least one UFC champion thinks so.
UFC 127's B.J. Penn has considered retirement before (2/27/2011 3:30:00 PM)
B.J. Penn has been in this position before. Following a failed attempt to reclaim his belt and a second loss to Frankie Edgar in 2010, Penn considered calling it quits. Following a UFC 127 majority draw with Jon Fitch on Saturday, Penn again was noncommittal on his future. But if his post-event flight plays out like it did after UFC 118, the view from 30,000 feet could provide some clarity.
UFC 127 headliner B.J. Penn: Welterweight division better on the mind and body (2/22/2011 7:20:00 PM)
Until a pair of losses to current UFC champion Frankie Edgar, B.J. Penn was king of the lightweights. In fact, if the sport ended today, you could make a strong case that the former titleholder is the greatest 155-pounder in MMA history. But as Penn fights in the welterweight division for Saturday's UFC 127 headliner against perennial contender Jon Fitch, he said both his mind and body are in a better place thanks to the heavier weight class.

Throughout his MMA career, with the notable exception of Gray Maynard, UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar has had all the answers. But as one of the more influential voices in the UFC's campaign to promote mixed martial arts and eventually - finally - get the sport sanctioned in the state of New York (where an event at the venerable Madison Square Garden would likely net an eight-figure gate), Edgar, for one of the few times in his life, is emotionally ruffled. "I just don't believe it," Edgar told MMAjunkie.com. "It's frustrating more than anything."
