The first half of 2009 proved difficult for Akihiro Gono, but at DREAM and World Victory Road's year-end "Dynamite!! 2009" event, he had the opportunity to finish the year on a high note. Gono dropped a decision to Jon Fitch in January at UFC 94, received his UFC walking papers, and suffered a subsequent knockout loss to Dan Hornbuckle at Sengoku Ninth Battle. But after a unanimous-decision win over Yoon Young Kim a few months later, the big opportunity came. In a DREAM vs. WVR matchup, Gono was matched up against Hayato "Mach" Sakurai, a DREAM welterweight grand prix semifinalist who entered the bout with eight wins in 10 fights.

Takaya, after all, had posted nine knockouts in his 12 career wins while Omigawa had just four among his eight total victories. In fact, their "Dynamite!! 2009" featherweight fight remained standing and didn't go to the mat. But as we see in the enclosed video, it wasn't Takaya who had the edge in the striking department.

It wasn't the DREAM "Super Hulk" semifinal fight we expected, but it was an interesting one nonetheless. The Japanese-based organization's open-weight tournament commenced earlier this year with eight notables fighters. However, despite winning his opening-round match-up, Gegard Mousasi was injured and forced out of the card, and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou was pitted against replacement Bob Sapp instead. We'll get the Mousasi vs. Sokoudjou matchup at this weekend's CBS-televised Strikeforce/M-1 event, but check out the embedded clip to see if Sokoudjou will enter the bout on a winning note.
