Maximum Fighting Championship has inked former UFC lightweight title contender Hermes Franca to a three-fight contract, the Canada-based promotion announced on Thursday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed

In one of the early year's biggest female fights, Rosi Sexton narrowly edged recent Strikeforce fighter Roxanne Modafferi at Friday's Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 40 event in England. Sexton survived her 125-pound opponent's many submission attempts but failed to put together any sustained offensive attacks in the closely contested fight. Additionally weekend winners included Paul McVeigh, Tony Lopez, Hermes Franca, Mike Campbell and others.

Officials today announced a quartet of "superfights" for the UFC Fan Expo trade and exhibition show in Boston, which coincides with next month's UFC 118 event. Members of MMA's first family, other grappling notables and even a former WEC champion are part of the lineup. The bouts include Rolles Gracie vs. Roberto Abreu, Gregor Gracie vs. Pablo Popovitch, Hermes Franca vs. Ryan Hall, and Penny Thomas vs. Tracey Goodell.
