Bellator boss: No deal with ex-UFC champ Ricco Rodriguez (2/19/2011 1:00:00 AM)
Ricco Rodriguez has not joined the Bellator Fighting Championships roster. Although the fighter recently gave an interview in which he said he has signed a contract with the promotion, an official denied those claims. Bellator Chairman and CEO told MMAjunkie.com he's impressed by Rodriguez's recent career resurgence but hasn't signed the fighter to the organization.

The upstart organization's debut event took place at Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv, Israel, and aired via online pay-per-view. Rodriguez weighed 215 pounds for the 205-pound fight. But after Tabera agreed to his opponent's fine and a 215-pound catchweight bout, Rodriguez scored takedowns with ease and ground-and-pounded his way to a lopsided decision win.

A serious knee injury has forced Ricco Rodriguez out of a scheduled Bellator 31 matchup with fellow heavyweight Dave "Pee Wee" Herman. MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the news with sources close to the Sept. 30 event, who said a search is underway for a replacement. Rodriguez initially hoped to fight through the knee injury, but he's since learned multiple surgeries may be required.
